Historical Background
The TEA bogie tank wagon was first introduced in the late 1960s to meet growing demand for high-capacity transport of petroleum and other hazardous liquids. Built in both 100-ton and 102-ton variants, these wagons became a staple of British Rail’s bulk liquid freight operations, particularly during the sectorisation era.
Constructed in large numbers between the 1960s and 1980s, and later updated variants produced through the 1990s and 2000s, TEA wagons remain in use today on oil traffic services between refineries, terminals, and storage depots across the UK. Their longevity and versatility have made them one of the most recognisable freight wagon types in modern British rail history.
This model represents the widely seen Shell-owned TEA tanker, a branding lineage that dates back to the early 20th century and remains strongly associated with UK fuel transportation, making it an essential addition for OO Scale modellers depicting both BR and post-privatisation freight operations.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood
Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
