Details
Bring early British Railways express power to your layout with the Hornby LNER A4 Pacific No. 60002 ‘Sir Murrough Wilson’, presented in elegant BR lined green with the iconic Cycling Lion crest. One of Sir Nigel Gresley’s legendary streamlined A4 locomotives, this highly detailed OO gauge model captures the distinctive profile and refined engineering that made the class synonymous with high-speed express passenger services.
Equipped with advanced HM7000 DCC Sound technology and a Gen 2 steam generator system, this model delivers a highly immersive operating experience. Realistic sound, synchronised steam effects and finely detailed motion combine to recreate the presence of a full-size Pacific on your layout.
Please Note: This model requires a DCC controller or the Hornby HM7000 App for operation.
This premium OO gauge model is built from extensive research and original works drawings, featuring a die-cast chassis and boiler for weight and smooth running. The locomotive includes die-cast connecting rods and valve gear, a fully detailed cab with decorated backhead, instrument dials and crew figures, plus turned brass safety valves for added realism.
Electrical pick-ups are provided on both locomotive and tender wheels, ensuring consistent performance, while a quick-release tender connection and pogo-pin arrangement simplify maintenance. The Gen 2 steam system uses optical sensing to synchronise steam output with wheel rotation, delivering up to 20 minutes of continuous operation using a safe cold-water system. Output can be adjusted via the decoder for fine control.
The factory-fitted HM7000 sound system features authentic A4 recordings, precisely synchronised with both motion and steam effects for maximum realism. The model also includes sprung buffers, NEM coupling pockets, a simulated coal load and a comprehensive accessory pack.
Tooling details include a smokebox door numberplate, single chimney, non-corridor tender and removed side valances, accurately reflecting the locomotive in BR service.

Historical Background
Completed in April 1938 as LNER No. 4499 ‘Pochard’, this locomotive was one of the later members of the famous A4 Pacific class designed by Sir Nigel Gresley. Despite its relatively late construction, it carried a low running number and quickly became part of the elite express passenger fleet.
In 1939, the locomotive was renamed ‘Sir Murrough Wilson’ after a senior LNER director. It was renumbered No. 2 in 1946 and became No. 60002 under British Railways following nationalisation in 1948. Throughout its career, it carried several liveries, including wartime black with removed side skirting, LNER Garter Blue, and later BR blue before finally receiving BR lined green in 1951.
Mechanical improvements included the fitting of a double chimney in 1957, enhancing performance on long-distance express routes. The locomotive remained in service until May 1964, when it was withdrawn from Gateshead depot, marking the end of a distinguished career on East Coast main line expresses.

Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood
Inspired to create a chair where the back and arms are moulded from a single piece of plywood, Hecht and Colin describe employing a process similar to that a tailor might use to cut a pattern in fabric. This approach resulted in the beautiful structure wherein the moulded back and arms component is supported by a simple A-frame wood dowel construction. One of the benefits of this design is an increase in comfort due to natural movement in the plywood back.
