History:
Built at Crewe Works, this standard 350hp diesel electric shunter started life in November 1959 as D3760 and was allocated to Dannycraig depot at Swansea in South Wales.
Under TOPS it was renumbered to 08593 and, in the 1990s, was reallocated to Colchester where it received a retro Great Eastern Railway inspired livery, reminiscent of the iconic Liverpool Street pilot from the 1950s.
It regained its pre-TOPS number D3760 and was named ‘Colchester TMD’ which was applied in a cursive hand-writing style. Classmate 08833 also received the same delightful red-lined paint scheme with early ‘cycling lion’ emblem and served further south at Liverpool Street and Stratford.
After serving a stint at Ipswich on container freight shunting duties, D3760 became part of the EWS fleet and, by 2010, was withdrawn and then stored. It was acquired by Railway Support Services at Wishaw in 2016.
