There is something special about visiting a model railway shop in person. Whether you are looking for a particular locomotive, planning a new layout or simply browsing for inspiration, being able to see products on the shelves and speak to people who understand the hobby can make the experience part of the enjoyment.
Harburn Hobbies has two shops, one in Edinburgh and one in Beer, Devon, giving railway modellers and enthusiasts two very different places to explore. Both offer a wide range of model railway products, alongside books, gifts, modelling products and other hobbies.
Harburn Hobbies Edinburgh
Our Edinburgh shop can be found at 67 Elm Row, on Edinburgh's historic Leith Walk.
The shop has a long history of its own. Harburn Hobbies began in Edinburgh in the 1930s and became known as one of Scotland's premier model shops under the ownership of Bob and Gill Baird. Following their retirement, the Edinburgh shop became part of the PECO family in spring 2025.
Today, the shop provides a chance to browse the hobby in person, whether you are looking for a particular model, exploring something new or simply taking some time to see what is available.
It is also conveniently located for visitors to the city, just a short walk from Princes Street and Waverley Station, with the McDonald Road tram stop directly outside the shop.
Harburn Hobbies Beer
In Devon, Harburn Hobbies can be found at Pecorama in Beer, at the heart of PECO headquarters.
The shop has been located at PECO headquarters since 1975, giving it a particularly close connection with the company and the wider model railway hobby.
There is also something particularly distinctive about visiting the Beer shop. It is the only place where you can see the full PECO collection in person, alongside products from many of the leading names in model railways.
The shop stocks model railway products as well as modelling products, die-cast vehicles, construction kits, books, gifts and more, with knowledgeable staff available to offer help and advice.
For visitors already exploring the area around Pecorama, the Harburn Hobbies shop provides another reason to spend some time looking around.
More Than Shopping
A visit to Harburn Hobbies does not have to begin with a shopping list.
Sometimes you might be looking for inspiration for a new project, trying to find a particular model or simply interested in seeing what is new. Browsing in person can be a useful part of deciding what direction to take your next project.
Our online model railway range also allows you to browse locomotives, rolling stock, track, scenery, controllers, DCC products and accessories before visiting one of the shops.
And if you spot something online that you would prefer to collect in person, in-store pickup is available from both the Beer and Edinburgh shops, with live availability shown on product pages.
