Bought for £700 on hire-purchase in 1899, it became No. 10 on the Isle of Wight Central Railway, painted in a distinctive red livery with black trim and gold lettering.

It remained in service on the island until 1936, by which time it had become W10 and was named Cowes. It was rebuilt by the Southern Railway in 1930 with a larger boiler as an ‘A1X’ and, following withdrawal in 1936, was used as a source of spares to keep other class members running.

Its remains were eventually scrapped at Eastleigh in 1949.
